Independence Day Health Outreach at Berlin Embassy 2026
On Wednesday, 30 September 2026, the Nigerian Medical Association Germany, in collaboration with the Nigerians in Diaspora Organisation (NIDO) and the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Berlin, held a free health outreach at the Embassy premises. Several members of the Nigerian community, including embassy staff members attended and received consultations across a range of specialties. On-site screening services were also provided, including ultrasound, urinalysis, blood pressure measurement, and blood glucose testing. Massive appreciation goes to the doctors and nurses who volunteered their time and expertise for the day.
The following day, the Association was honoured to join the Embassy and the wider Nigerian community in Berlin for the celebration of Nigeria's 66th Independence Anniversary.
We are grateful to His Excellency, Ambassador Ita Solomon Enang and the staff of the Embassy for the invitation, hospitality and for their support of the outreach, and to NIDO for the partnership that made the day possible.
The Nigerian Medical Association Germany remains committed to bringing accessible, preventive healthcare to Nigerians in Germany, and we look forward to building on this initiative in the months ahead.
General Meeting Mannheim 2026
On Saturday, 12 September 2026, members of the Nigerian Medical Association, Germany gathered at Rive Gauche in Mannheim for our General Meeting 2026, held under the theme Networking: National, International and Nigerian Perspectives. The day brought together colleagues from across Germany alongside invited partners, companies and guests.
Our outgoing President, Dr. med. Mariam Adamu, opened the meeting with a reflection on the work of the association over the past year. The Treasurer presented the financial report, and members received an account of our activities, our growth in membership and our engagements with partner organisations at home and abroad.
Elections into the executive positions followed. We congratulate Dr. Hamid Balogun (President), Dr. Junaid Habib (Vice President), Dr. Ekene Chikwelu (General Secretary), Dr. Saidu Al-Hassan (Treasurer) and Dr. Ibukun Akin Odeyemi (Social Director) on their election, and we thank the outgoing executive for their service.
His Excellency Ambassador Ita Solomon Enang of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Berlin addressed the gathering on the role of the diaspora in Nigeria's health and development agenda, and assured us of the Embassy's support for our upcoming health outreach in Berlin. We are grateful for his presence and for the continued support extended to our association.
The formal programme closed with the presentation of the Distinguished Award of Recognition, given to the founding members whose work established this association, to members recognised for distinguished service, and to those whose support has sustained our activities. His Excellency Dr. Dadu Yakubu, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in Frankfurt, received the award for Distinguished Partner in recognition of his leadership and support. A special recognition was presented to Dr. med. Mariam Adamu for her leadership as outgoing President. The association records its gratitude for her dedication and for the standing she has helped us achieve.
Our thanks go to Stanbic IBTC for supporting the event, and to every member who travelled to Mannheim, the families who came along, our guests and partners, and the volunteers whose work behind the scenes kept the day running.
The next General Meeting will hold on Saturday, 11 September 2027. Details will follow in due course. Until then, we encourage members to stay connected and to bring colleagues into the fold.

Diaspora Health Impact Initiative 2026
We are delighted to announce the successful completion of the Diaspora Health Impact Initiative 2026, in collaboration with NiDCOM, the Nigerian Medical Association, the Federal Medical Centre Keffi, and the Federal Ministry of Health.
Alongside the team at FMC Keffi, our Vice President, Dr. Hamid Balogun, Dr. med. Thomas Bauknecht and Dr. med. Gerlinde Bauknecht from Germany oversaw successful screening of over 160 patients.
We extend our deepest gratitude to all who have contributed to bringing this project to life, and to the dedicated healthcare providers at FMC Keffi who volunteered and whose commitment on the ground is invaluable to its success.
Together, we are making a difference!
