National Diaspora Day 2026
Our Vice President, Dr. Hamid Balogun, represented NMA Germany at the 9th National Diaspora Day and 4th National Diaspora Merit Awards 2026, held at the Banquet Hall, Presidential Villa, Abuja. The theme for this year was “Harnessing Global Diaspora Medical Expertise to Strengthen Local Health Systems for National Development.”
In the weeks leading up to the event, diaspora physician organisations from around the world, including NMA Germany, ANPA, MANSAG, CANPAD and others, successfully conducted medical missions across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, providing specialist services in maternal and child healthcare, surgical expertise, and sickle cell and cancer screening. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu subsequently met with the leaders of the Nigerian Diaspora Medical Associations, led by the Director General of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Abike Dabiri Erewa.
The message was clear: diaspora medics play a significant role in the overall health of Nigerians back home through knowledge transfer, specialist medical outreach, capacity building, clinical mentorship, research collaboration, and health workforce development.
Diaspora Health Impact Initiative 2026
We are delighted to announce the successful completion of the Diaspora Health Impact Initiative 2026, in collaboration with NiDCOM, the Nigerian Medical Association, the Federal Medical Centre Keffi, and the Federal Ministry of Health.
Alongside the team at FMC Keffi, our Vice President, Dr. Hamid Balogun, Dr. med. Thomas Bauknecht and Dr. med. Gerlinde Bauknecht from Germany oversaw successful screening of over 160 patients.
We extend our deepest gratitude to all who have contributed to bringing this project to life, and to the dedicated healthcare providers at FMC Keffi who volunteered and whose commitment on the ground is invaluable to its success.

Inauguration of the Nigerian Ambassador to Germany
On July 23rd, 2026, our Social Director, Dr. Ibukun Akin Odeyemi, represented NMA Germany at the inauguration of the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Germany, His Excellency Ambassador Ita Solomon James Enang, in Berlin.
His Excellency expressed his support and outlined his plan to collaborate with us on projects involving healthcare professionals and institutions in Germany and Nigeria.
